This streaming basket was provided as a review sample. I had a little difficulty expanding it at first, but that was due to my ineptitude. It will arrive very compactly folded. Place your finger in the hole at the top of the basket and pull to the side and it opens like a flower blossoming.
The dimensions in the product description are correct. The smaller size of this makes it perfect for me since I live alone and usually cook only for myself. It's perfect for steaming shrimp as well as a variety of vegetables. In fact, with it partially closed to there it resembles a volcano it is ideal for steaming brussels sprouts.
For larger items, like siopao or coarsely chopped vegetables, there is a center post that can be unscrewed and set aside. However for shrimp and similar ingredients it's best to leave the post and ring in place to make removing the basket easier. In fact, if you owned a few of these steaming baskets they make an ideal serving platter was well. Steam up potatoes, veggies and shrimp and serve the entire basket in a plate to guests.
